Mild 4.1 Earthquake Detected in Marmara Region, Noticeable in Istanbul and Nearby Provinces

A 4.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Türkiye’s Marmara region at 23:53, felt in Istanbul and surrounding provinces. The quake, centered near Yalova’s Çınarcık district, was discussed by experts on NTV. AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority) reported the earthquake’s epicenter was 8.52 kilometers offshore Çınarcık, at a depth of 11.18 kilometers.

Earthquake expert Prof. Dr. Okan Tüysüz, speaking on NTV, stated the tremor is unrelated to the anticipated major Istanbul earthquake, but serves as a reminder. He clarified that the earthquake, occurring in the middle of the Çınarcık trough, is likely from a small fault and not associated with the main fault affecting Istanbul.

Prof. Dr. Şükrü Ersoy also commented, noting this earthquake’s location differs from previous ones in South Marmara and Gemlik Bay. He emphasized the significance of this region’s seismic activity and the expectation of a larger earthquake along the North Anatolian Fault.

Following the earthquake, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that AFAD and related teams commenced field scanning operations. He extended well-wishes to those affected and emphasized ongoing monitoring of developments.

The Istanbul Governor’s Office reported no damage so far, and relief efforts are continuing. They reassured that no damage reports have been received as of yet and emergency teams are actively working in the field.
