A reception was hosted by the Turkish Embassy in London at Guildhall, one of the capital’s historic buildings, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye. The event saw the attendance of high-level British officials, diplomatic representatives from various countries, and approximately a thousand guests from the Turkish community and business circles in the UK.
At a recent event, Alderman Professor Emma Edhem, Chairman of the Turkish British Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TBCCI), highlighted the centenary of the Republic of Türkiye. TBCCI Chairman praised the progress and resilience demonstrated over 100 years since its founding by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, marking a significant milestone. Edhem reflected on Türkiye’s evolution into the modern nation it is today, acknowledging the hard work of generations in this journey.
However, Edhem also acknowledged current global challenges, noting the tragic conflicts affecting parts of the world and expressing solidarity with those suffering.

Shifting focus to the future, Edhem emphasized the flourishing economic partnership between the UK and Türkiye. She stated that despite global adversities, this relationship has grown exponentially year on year. Edhem underscored the importance of fostering collaboration in areas like innovation, defense, security, and environmental, social, and governance practices. These efforts, she believes, can drive economic growth and benefit both nations and the global community.
Further, she highlighted the significant potential in trade and investment, international finance, education, and STEM between the United Kingdom, specifically the City of London, and Türkiye. Strengthening these economic ties, she suggested, can create value surpassing previous growth.
Edhem also praised His Excellency Korai Artash, the Turkish ambassador to the UK, for his contributions to diplomatic relations and economic collaboration between the two countries.
As the TBCCI looks forward to the future, Edhem expressed excitement about the potential achievements in UK-Türkiye relations. She called for a renewed commitment to a prosperous future for both nations as they mark the centenary of the Republic of Türkiye. Her message concluded with a wish for even greater prosperity and cooperation in the century ahead.
